AB 10k's are more of a 13k. For more yellow and best par go with Iwasaki or a more whitish XM.

Hey myakkareef - that's a nice pic and color. Is that what the AB10K looks like in person? I might be inclined to get that instead of 14K's.

swashbuckler - You'll want 6500K bulb if you want a yellow(er) look. Look at the sticky where JBNY did the lighting examples and get a ballast that doesn't overdrive the bulb.

The AB 250 watt de is NOT a 13 k bulb. The 150 watt de is (or was) essentially a 13 k bulb. THe 250 watt de is closer to a 7500-8000 k bulb.

Those are the AB 10k DE's 250w...with the 2-35wT5's which are basically drowned out by the halides...The color you see is what the tnak looks like...Personlly I like the 14k Pheonix pictures I have seen with alittle more blues, but these lights are fairly new and I am not switching bulbs out at this point...

thanks for the input guys- i have a 150DE pendent w/ 2 VHO's and im kinda split b/t a 10k USHIO and a 10k (13K) AB- whichever one gives off more of a warm color.

The DE AB bulbs are not a 13K. The SE AB bulbs are closer to a 13K.

The DE AB bulbs have a good portion of yellow in them. The white look above is because of the T5 bulbs. They wash out the yellow pretty good. Your VHO bulbs will not wash out the yellow as well as T5s.

Ushio still will have a yellow cast but not as bad as the AB.

I have the same light fixture as above and am thinking of going to Ushio 10K when I switch the bulbs out. The AB 10K are very intense lights, but too yellow. The T5's don't seem to put out enough light to drown out the yellow. I read somewhere that the DE AB 10K's are in the 9000K range and the Ushio DE 10K are in the 11000K range. From what I've seen that sounds about right. If you had a good deal of VHO actinic the AB 10K could be a good choice because of it's great PAR.

I have 3 AB 10K (SE) 250's on my 245 gallon tank along with 6 VHO (3 Atinic and 3 50/50). If you want bright bulbs with a white/yellow look then these are them. However, you're going to be disappointed if you want a blue a hue. Even with 3 atinic's on this tank, I'm still not getting enough blue because the AB's are drowning out the atinics. I've thinking really hard about switihing out to the 14k 250 Aquaconnects to get more blue...that is of course if I can ever find the darn things.
