My Excalibur skimmer's iln-tank box has three compartments: one for the pump, one for the water return pipe, and the third for the water's return to the tank. In this third compartment, there is a sponge for reducing the number of bubbles coming into the tank.

What do you think of using this compartment for activated charcoal to help improve my water clarity?

Well Ron,
It may be worth a shot, but unlesss water is being forced through the carbon it may not be the optimum way to use carbon.
Where inNC are you?
Sean

Sean,
Chapel Hill-not too far from you. You're probably right. The compartment on the right of the skimmer box is for the water return pipe. But it is closed on the sides and bottom and all of the return water flows from it over a baffle into the center chamber then through an opening in the bottom and back into the tank. I guess to help remove air bubbles? So, if I placed the charcoal in the central compartment, all of the water would have to pass over/through the charcoal en route back into the tank.
