Metal Halide Photoperiod Question

If I were to buy MHs, how long would the photoperiod be, 12 hours?

I run mine around 9 hours [7 hours of each, spread over 9 total hours], with VHO actinic supplimentation [which runs 12]

I have been running my MH's for a 5 hour photo period without any loss of growth or color. I have very few SPS but lots of other LPS, Softies, shrooms and etc. everything seems happy with the 5 hours. I run T5 ocean blues for 10 hours aday....

What I meant to ask was say after your photoperiod is finished for the day, do you turn on your moonlights if you have any?

I have moon lights but only run them for about two hours after the lights go out - some of my fish wont go to sleep otherwise (Swallowtail Angel will just keep swimming around and Mandarin will actually stay up all night hunting all the pods that come out at night). The rest of the fish just go into the rocks and sleep.

No Moonlights, was never sold on their need.

Some see the moonlights as simulating a natural environment for the critters.... but I think most see them as an asthetic feature for you and your house guests.
