Hi guys,

Im trying to figure out if this is either some type of sponge or algae growing on this rock. It is much bigger and larger on another rock. It is starting to spread.

What is this?

does it break up easily or peel off?
Is it visible at night/with the lights off?
Is it only green not red or brown?
Is it in High or Low Flow areas?

Ive noticed when I get near it with a turkey baster, it seems like it would blow off. But its still on the rock pretty good. I have very good flow in this tank. 4 maxi 1200's, so its not like its free floating.

It is only green all the time and visible all times of the day. Its in a high flow area.

I'm just asking because both Dino and cyano can be green. They have different things they like so i was trying to narrow it down. Dinos have a prettty strong bond so they don't break up like cyano.
Dino's grow better in high flow areas where cyano will not grow at all.
CYano is generally not visible at night where dino's are.
Where Dinos and Cyano are most commonly seen in red or brown, However Can be Green.

Personally it looks like dino's but good also be hair algae.

Looks like hair algae to me, if it's gets longer and you notice "fuzz" starting on your other rocks you can bet your bippy it is. The stuff I battled wasn't easy to pull off as some people said..at one point I had to take the rocks out and scrub them! Finally got the problem solved but it took a long time. Good luck.

I had a major dino problem in my tank and it does not look like it. Dinos have alot of bubbles attached to it and it is easily removed from rock or corals with a soft brush. It looks like hair algae to me.

I have dino's in my tank and if left alone tunr green and do not always have bubbles on the surface. Smetimes they are visible underneath. They do peel off easily though. They can also have strings that look like hair growing from them.
Cyano has more bubbles IMO.
The picture makes it look a little too slimy for me to rule it out.

IME/IMO
