Can amphipods kill zoanthus?

It seems my bugs have moved in bigtime on the zoanthus and they don't seem to like being walked all over and closed rapidly and now it seems a big section has died...

Is this possible that the bugs are causing problems?

A friend of mine had a species of amphipods that ate nearly all of his zoos. He eventually fresh water dipped all his zoos to get rid of them. They were rather large with a dark brown/black stripe down their back.
