Looks like Blastomussa merletti to me, unusual coloration tho.

I'm with you on that one.

Not closed brain... no meat...

Merletti is out as well... no meat... :(

It looks like a totally stressed goniopora/flower pot coral... but no tentacles, juz the polyps...

What do you mean "no meat"?

Hmm... well that's a dubious distinction, and certainly subjective, since I wouldn't consider any Blastomussa "fleshy" like I would, say, Euphyllia.

I really thinks it's a favia

I would guess that it is Leptastrea sp. They are pretty uncommon.

Whatever it is it's beautiful love that purple.

I would't think favia would have ridges that steep?? $0.02

Yup, there is no extended flesh on the coral.

Merletti has an extended disc-shaped flesh, this one doesn't... :P

I also dun tink it's favia, the entire coral is pretty flat, unlike favias whereby either the coralite is protruded or there is a slight dent into the coralite, this guy is almost totally flat on the surface...

The closest so far would be Leptastrea sp., but I've searched the web and none of the pics really looks like the piece I'm holding...

Any more ideas what this coral may be? really keen to find out... :P

Thanxs!

It's a Leptastrea, I have a colony just like it except the centres on mine are neon green.

Mine is purple with neon green centres, when I get my camera going I will send you a pic for sure. Actually, there was a post not to long ago about this subject. Maybe if you do a search you might find it.
