With all the talk nowadays about diet and nutrition, I was wondering if it would be safe to eat a small amount of Calcium Chloride to satisfy the body's need for calcium. We eat a lot of Sodium Chloride every day, so why can't we eat some Calcium Chloride?

Anyone have any ideas?

Well, it is the same stuff they use to crisp pickles....I think it's edible.

They also use it as a de-icer though...soooo ;)

Sprinkle a little Turbo Calcium on your tongue, see how it tastes :)

Sometimes I use Instant Ocean in recipes. You have to use a little more than you would table salt.

Um, Turbo Calcium heats up when added to water. Not sure this would be a good idea.

I prefer Kent, I think it adds more flavor, it's great in bbq sauce.

Do you guys really use reef hobby salt for cooking or are you being funny?! I don't see why it couldn't be used...

Flagpull,

The stuff they use to crisp pickles is Calcium Hydroxide (aka pickling lime) not Calcium chloride.

"Pure calcium chloride is edible (in small quantities at least, just like regular table salt), it's used in some canned goods and cheeses, but this concentrated form is probably the saltiest thing you'll ever taste. It has a horrible taste and puts a strain on your kidneys."

Found this on a website about the edibility of Calcium Chloride which is ice melter basically.
