I picked up a hang on refugium a few weeks back. I added some live rock as well as some chaeto macro algae.

I'm running 4 VHOs on the main tank and was hoping that the existing lighting would suffice for the hang on refugium since the light gets into the refugium. However I noticed my chaeto is just breaking up (when I grab it, it breaks up easily into really small pieces) and is not looking really healthy (it is still green at least most of it).

Is this light strong enough or does chaeto need strong lighting?

I was hoping to get away with what I have.

I have a 9 watt light for my refugium and have extreme proliferation, I would reccomend getiing a small light to go over it and running for 24 hrs. good luck!!!

I read that chaeto dont need alot of light. Article in Coral magazine says it can usually grow with low light.

viceversabrd,

9W? Are you sure? That's like a night-light.
