Xenia was one of the first corals I was successful with. So much so that I supplied 4 lfs with it to the point they coudnt sell it as fast as I grew it. I actually threw it out a few times a month for a while.

cash crop!

just like mamaw and papaw and their tobacco during the depression

couldn't stay in the hobby without it. Besides, it pulses so makes my tank look cool. Its the first thing everyone notices.

It's cool as long as you keep it under control. I went to a fellow reefer's house a few months ago to buy a frag and he had it all over the entire back glass :eek1:
It was cool but something I could never do.

I like it a lot. I have about 30 different coral species in my 75g, but most people who see the tank for the first time notice the Xenia. The movement is eye catching I guess.
I've got quite a bit of it on the back glass, and on the left side glass panel as well, besides the two rocks that are covered with it.
It is hard to control and it gets in places that I don't want it to be, but at least it usually doesn't harm the other corals.

It's growing like a weed in my tank. I've cut, scraped, scrubbed and sold rock. It just keeps growing and spreading.

I'm looking for some more ways to control it.

Any suggestions???

No coral is my favorite, but I like all my corals. You just have to know your players.

Same here, non-reefers notice it immediately because it is animated.

I have some pink pom-poms and as many have said, it is the first thing people notice. I keep it on a tall narrow rock and it tends to stay at the top, if it moves i just frag it and give it away.

i like them alot. .but i can't seem to get them to THRIVE like everyone raves.. they were one of my first corals. .. and i love watching it pulse. .but my luck with them won't allow me to consider it my favorite.. .when my heater just blew apart for no reason ..that was the first coral to kick the bucket....whenever there is something wrong with my tank. .the xenia is one of the first to act up... and shrivel or "melt" away. . when all the other corals are fine and thrivin...

any advice for a unlucky xenia keeper like myself?

The only xenia in my tank is my true blue xenia, other than that they all grow too fast too control.
