Just for fun, I took a few shots of my corals in IR to see how they would turn out:

Cool shots Greg. I'll have to bug you for photography tips when I come to the frag swap. I have a new Canon Rebel XT that I am still trying to figure out how to use.

A little bleached?!? They look to me like they died and stayed in purgatory as ghosts

Uh oh... Now you're not gonna come to my swap, huh? No wonder people prefer the park.

...peace of mind land? Is that like a soothing thing?

Sure thing... In the mean time you can check out these lessons, if you haven't already seen them:

All cameras are IR sensitive to a degree. Most manufacturers incorporate an IR cut filter that helps reduce the IR pollution from the sensitivity of the CCD/CMOS used. However, these filters do not cut 100% though and you can still shoot IR with it. The G6 actually does very well in that respect.

Thanks, Greg...
So out of curiosity, how does one shoot IR? What settings do you change to get this photo effect?

Pretty much the same way you take any other photo - just stick the filter on and snap away. With cameras that employ IR cut filters, you'll need a long exposure - that would be any camera that's not a Sony.
