Hi Guys,

I have one mandarim in 110G, he used to be very fat, but at this moment he is very skinny.

I´m doing a research about this fish, and I would like to know how long this fish can reach in home aquarium. Until now, in my research, the maximum age was 4 years in home aquarium.

I would like to hear more testimony

Regards

Roberto

How long has your tank been up and do you have a good amount of pods in your tank?

I agree with the last post, a mandarin like most reef fish should live at least ten years. I never lost one to disease and I have had many. It was always an accident like getting sucked into an intake when the strainer came off, that is how I lose most of them but that is usually after four or five years. I had two jump out, one swam into an anemone.
Have fun.

This thread has probably been one of the most helpful to me and my skinny mandarin, who is now fat and sassy! Check it out.

Would I be able to add a mandarin to my new tank. I got the rock from a friend of mine. His rock was in his tank for 10 years.

perky,

if you can see a lot of pods running around at night and crawling on the glass, you should be all right, make sure the fish you pick out eats at the lfs... mandarins are failry hardy fish, they're just considered difficult to keep because they are very, very picky eaters... :)

good luck!
