I have two different kinds of problem algae's, can someone please identify the kind growing on the side and outlet. It's a brown color, maybe tan 1/4" to 1/2" growing at the top of the tank. The other is on the bottom, looks like a rust color, little on some pieces of rock????? What do I do to get rid of both of them, and thanks for your help?????

looks like diatoms and cyano
you can get a clean up crew to eat the diatoms but the cyano is a bit trickier. i got rid of mines naturally by adding a bunch of macro algae to my display tank and within a month it was completely gone. everybody has their methods but this is what has worked out for me.

I believe that the brown at the top of your tank are the diatoms.

The stuff on the bottom picture is cyano. There are several methods to get rid of cyano, mainly caused by an excess of phosphates and low flow areas. You can try increasing the flow in your tank, cyano usually lingers around the dead spots. As bluenassarius, adding a refugium to house macro algaes can aid in taking the phosphates, among other nutrients, out of your water column, in addition to providing a place to house pods. Or you could be overfeeding and simply reducing the amount of food going into your tank can fix your cyano problem.

Hope this helps ^_^

Start up frequent water changes and look for the nuitrient source. Also, how old are your light bulbs? A spectrum shift and aide algea in growth.

I have plenty flow, I think 5 to 6K per hour??? I may be over feeding, bulbs are seven months old, my fuge has plenty of growth, but it has some goofy looking junk in it also. I'll take a pic of it and post later???? When you say over feeding are you meaning fish food or the stuff I'm feeding the corals???????? Thank again for you help.......

Are there mangrove leaves laying in the sump? If so, those are contributing to your nuitrient problem. Also, do you harvest algea from your sump?

Yes those are mangroves, what you are seeing is the reflection of the light bulbs. Yes I take out some of the algae, is that brown stuff OK??????
