Maybe you've experienced this before....

This afternoon, my banded coral shrimp was seated right in the middle of the tank, as normal. It looked darker and was acting abnormal. I discovered today that my light timer was not set correctly. Maybe that's why the shrimp was more brown and yellow than red and white. It was covered with fine algae because the lights have been on since daylight saving time began....Grrrrrrrr!!!!

Suddenly, the shrimps' head moved backwards as the shell near the neck shifted back slightly. I called my boss to witness this action with me. The shrimp proceeded to wiggle its body slowly out of its old shell. It was an awesome sight to see! A banded coral shrimp molting before my eyes! Remember, the two claws that were snapped off during the catch? Well, they were restored as new, of course. Brave shrimp, I guess because there are no fish in the tank yet.

After the shrimp molted completely in less than two minutes flat, my colleague returns to the office. He had the digital camera! Maybe next time...

Shrimpfully,
Neal Morris
