refernce needed for power head

I am shopping for a power head. I need to know how many gpm needed for a 55 gal. tank. Also any brands to advoid or that people recommend. Has any one tried the type that rotate back and forth?

Yeah they need to be cleaned monthly, or they tend to stick a little. But I like them.
