I finally was able to fully build my first skimmer from scratch. I still need to cut the riser tube to the correct height but i will do so once my final Sedra 9000 pump comes in this week. The skimmer is about 7' tall right now, and the PVC is 10" ID. The skimmer will run by three sedra 9000 pumps and will be gravity fed from my 225. I know my gluing was a little sloppy, but i was a little paranoid about have a leaky skimmer. I plan to add a wet neck system to it, but i am trying to find the most efficient way to do it. Let me know what you think.

Bigger is better, period. Any in-sump in-stand skimmer is a comprimise, no matter how much it costs. If it ain't external and 7 ft tall, don't bother!

pumps were $100 x 3, collection cup was $20, all the pvc plumbing parts and acrylic was about $70, and the main chamber was given to me but someone guessed that the cols of the pipe would have been a maximum of about $21/ft

Is that the normal sump level, or pumps-off-overflow-test level?

that is my normal sump level next to the skimmer. The main tank is the floor above me. Also, there is a 40gallon sump that sits on the ground.

You couldve saved money on the sedra pumps too, DIY cut Bioball propeller in a hagen 802"400GPH (or whatever your GPH needs), boom! instant mazzei/venturi pump. Ive tested against a friends sedra 3500(?) and i had nothing to be ashamed of.
Its really a neat little trick.

BTW what are you skimming, coffee? ;)
