Looks like my mushroom is breaking in half. Also it does not look happy. Is this what happens when they split?

As long as the mouth does not start to unravel, you should be okay. Some mushrooms can look pretty bad when they are splitting, but the mouth still be defined most of the time. If it is sick and dying, the first sign would be the mouthbasically spitting itself out

Does the mouth tear in half too? Cause it does not look like the guts are turning out.

Lots of variables...I don't know enough to tell you. Acouple of mine split really quick and others have been in the process of splitting for months.

Yeah the mouths split on a lot of mushrooms. Some ricordea florida will have mouths just pop up in another spot and start splitting around the two mouths. Many ricordeas will have upwards of 5 mouths. Other shrooms act differently. Along with polyps splitting, you may also see little baby ones start to form around the bigger polyps. What kind of shroom do you have?

I had one split into 4 while I wasn't looking. Now it looks like one of the 4 is splitting again.

My frilly shroom took about 5 days to split. The first day I noticed it was elongating. About the 4th day, I noticed it starting to attach to another hole in the rock. The 5th day a whole new shroom was there instead of just a tiny piece. Very cool.

I read a post yesterday where a guy said how his shroom ate his clown. http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=4862888#post4862888

the clown is not taking to it. He is a heartless beast :) his only care in the world is eating!

It looks like it is almost done splitting, but the way it has situated it's self it is hard to tell.

I notice stress will cause a split alot of times..those shrooms have been in that same spot for well over a year..it probably did'nt appreciate being moved.Your clown may change her mind too...ya never know.;)
Mushrrom coral is more closely related to anemones than corals.Elephant ears will actually lure fish into them, and then eat them. The huge one at a shop in longwood ate a 12 year old clown:eek2:

My clowns didn't go near my anemone for about a week. They stayed in my frilly tonga shrooms for quite a while before one night when I looked in and to my surprise one of the clowns was nestled in and the other was swimming around him. In other words, every clown(or pair) has different personalities. It may take a while before your clown gets settled in his new home.
