Hey I just registered on the Do Not Call List for my home phone and our 2 cell phones... If I'm allowed to post the link I will... Is this allowable or not???

Have they started that back up bimbo? I thought that there was some question as far as legality, brought up by lawyers for telemarketers and other phone based businesses. I thought the site was still up, and you could register, but that it was still in legal limbo.

What a waste of time... Anyone with which you have a previous relationship can call you as often as they like. Most of my calls are from my CC companies, my phone service companies etc... This lame bit of legislation was all PR fluff. Notice politcal fund raising calls are exempt  Wish they'd focus on fixing some important issues... Sorry for the rant. Hope this got in before the lock :lmao:

I'm not sure, the neighbor just called from work to let me know about it... We do not have caller ID, she was telling us months ago that she registered her home phone, and now you can also register your Cell phone as well :) ... So I did it and wanted to share incase anyone else was interested in it... I hate answering the phone at 9:30p.m. and it be somebody from another country wanting to give me a credit card  !!! Ask them what their name is and they say " Missy " and you know they are lying...

I registered and my call volume went down alot. As for the people that can already call you, if you ask them to remove you, they are supposed to.

Actually a very common Indian name  :D

Most of the major Corp's like GE have moved all this work to India for the cheap labor costs.

I don't know about the PR fluff thing. The only calls I've ever gotten on my cell since registering are from the American Red Cross and I gave them my number.

FWIW: I've never been called on my cell phone... and I'm not signed up ;)

They are going to start to do this very, very soon... I don't think it would hurt to register... I agree that it's a very common name even over there  ... <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm414BKUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_13_1.gif' alt='Phone Shocker' border=0></a>

I've had wrong numbers on my cell phone, but never a "spam" call.

Oh, a GREAT way to get off a list, tell them they have just contacted you at work & this is a work number
I actuallay had someone call at work trying to sell something, they told me they weren't supposed to call work numbers.

And I do a LOT of work at home ;)

I registered when it was first started. I was getting 4 to 5 calls a day for everything from timeshares to vinyl siding. I have not gotten one call since registering. The only calls are from CC company and they were told that if I ever got another call I would cancel the card, and they have never called again.

I was getting 2-3 calls a night. Since registering, they have dwindled to nothing. The non-profits can still call, but all you have to do is decline and ask them to take your name out of their database. Can't remember the last call I got, but ity REALLY used to be annoying. I did make reports on a few that were not adhering, but those have stopped as well.

blah, not sure if it works because i have signed upo both my home phone and cell on the registry and still get telemarketing calls to this day.

i also get the pre-recorded pitches....isn't that illegal?

I'm glad they stopped for you. I've been fighting a non-profit org for THREE YEARS!!!! I just blasted them out today as a matter of fact. I threatened legal action if they call me again, but I don't know what I would actually sue them for. My blood pressure goes up and my hubby can see my face turning red when I see their number on the caller ID.

We've had a state list here in Colorado for a few years now. I signed up when the billwas first passed and stopped getting calls the day it went into effect. I don't know how effective a federal list would be, but the state list works like a charm.

I get calls all the time to my cell around 3am asking me for my address so that they can "continue my registration for a quality low rate mortgage." I keep telling them I rent an apartment and Im a full-time student in school. Then they want my parents phone numbers.

Lately Ive just blasted loud music into the phone and then hung up. Either that or I say "(blank) you" really loud and hang up.

I like to speak to telemarketers in French until they hang up

You mean you want me to stop putting your number on all the product registrations and "Win a luxury vacation" contest entries I submit?

Dang, now I'll have to find someone else's numbers to use... :D

My sister uses the Monty Python response.

When they go into their pitch, she says to them "WAIT! First you must answer me these questions three and then your call I will receive."

Usually they hang up. But one of them got really mad at her when she went into the whole "unladen swallow" thing and told her "This is serious! Quit making light of it!" :D

I'm with you. I've been unlisted for well over a decade and promptly hang up on telemarketers when they do call (once every 2 or 3 months.) I've noticed that the majority of those who call are representing my creditors and trying to sell me something else. Those guys don't have to abide by the don't call list since you're already one of their clients.

I've been on my state and the national list for a little over a year now and the only calls I ever get are from the phone company wanting me to upgrade my service. That's about once every 3-4 months. I just say "I don't take telephone solicitations" and hang up. I used to get ten or more calls a day. I think that even some of the companies that could call because of recent business with you do abide by the list too. So far, so good for me.

I signed up a few months back when all the hoop-lah about it was going on and my calls droped off a lot. Non-profit ogranizations are exempt, and still call but I did get 2 more calls after I was on the list. After I asked the poor telemarketers names I informed them I was on the FCC do not call list and if they contacted me again they would be hearing from the FBI. I still get a fire fighters or stae trooper call every now and then but thats it, the list worked for me I used to get at least 3 calls a week.

I used to get bombarded by these calls too until I added my number to that list. Now I only get them from my credit cards.

:D We've never had a real bad problem with telemarketers (and we're not on the list). Dad hasn't got one telemarketer call on his cell phone (occasionally he'll get a wrong number), though he doesn't go around throwing his number out. Only gives the number to people that need to get a hold of him. And our home phone we get a few (some days there is more, some days there is none), but not a huge problems with 'em. :p i like playing along with them, we have one that calls us wanting to fix something on our house (windows, ect) if they can put a sign in our front yard. Lot of good that'll do 'em! :D The only things that will see it besides us is the mountain lions, bobcats, deer, birds...

When I was signed up for this before the calls completely stopped.
Just signed up my new #s.

Years ago, I got a call from At&T, wanting me to switch long distance carriers. I said they had the wrong number when they asked if Melissa was there (I'm Melissa). Then they said "Well is this 555-238-1212 (or whatever my # was then)?" And I said NO. Then the guy was like, I'm from AT&T, and this is an automatically dialed call, and it has to be this number, are you sure? I just said, yeah, I'm sure, you called the wrong house.
They never called again, and it was a funny story to tell at work.
Oh yeah, we are on the list, and we don't get any call either.

Whenever a telemarketer slips through, we ask them to hold and we just sit the phone on the counter and walk away. They usually hang up after a minute or two.

I'm on the do not call list, so all I get is my phone company wanting to sell me more services.

I have a simple reply that's quite fun:

"I don't own a phone."

silence....

"uh..."

My favorite, keep them on the phone for a minute like you are interested and say, "hang on, someone's at the door" and just sit the phone down. I did that once and picked the phone up like 5 minutes later and she was still on the line. I ordered a years worth of time magazine (which I never read) because I figured she earned the sale:)
