A pump that is plumbed to the sump, ( dont say that three times fast) Which side would you place a control valve to adjust the flow?

We have our pump, after the sump, then the valve after that..before it goes back to the tank.

Actually you want it on both...Take a look at my gallery on page 3 that's the setup that Doug from sea-in-the-city put together for me.

Thanks Chad, the unions are on the pump.....on both sides.

Yeah after I looked at the pics on the other pages I saw that. Always a good idea to have those. ;)

If you are using it to adjust return flow, I was always told to adjust the flow after the pump not before. I have them on both sides so if I need to do maitenance, but when I did testing on microbubbles, I used the one after the pump.

jay24k is exactly right. Only use the valve downstream (after) the pump to adjust the flow.

Valves and unions on both sides of an external pump are very handy for servicing the pump without draining the sump.

If it is a submersible pump just put a valve after the pump if you think you might need to slow the flow.

Never restrict water coming out of the sump to the pump...
Larger plumbing from sump to pump is prefered....

If you do have to restrict the output don't use a non pressure rated pump. You lose lots of flow and it can really stress the motor. Use high head pumps for that application.
