Tetratec ?

I have a Tetratec filter on my tank. Yesterday I took the sponge out to clean it and it was loaded with tiny shrimp. They were stuck in the sponge so I tossed it only to realize later maybe that wasn`t a good idea. What were these tiny critters and are they good or bad.

I was told I could use the Tetratec filter for a refugum, is that so? How would that be done? Wouldn`t sand and things get stuck in the impeller?:confused:

I`m planning on upgrading from the 30 tall to a 55 gal. How would I transfer the sand or do I ? What all do I need to know before moving the contents of the 30 to the 55?

You probably had a bunch of pods you were seeing, they like to collect around sponges, filter socks, cheato etc....they are good for your tank....when I change my filter sock or sponges in my overflow I usually try and rinse in a bucket of tank water and put them back into the tank...certain fish feed off these critters..
