I think this is such a cool looking fish. (even ugly cool, in a way)

I had one in my 80 gallon for about 5 years. I think he moved twice. They just chill out.

I only kept one back then, but now thinking about a few. I was told they are a schooling fish, is that true?

If so, what does everyone think for a 180? 3 or 5, max?

They NOT really a schooling fish. Some people do keep more then one and they are OK. In smaller tanks they tend to fight. A 180 maybe OK for about 3.

In that case, I'll just keep one!

Thanks for the reply.

One thing I have always recommended was to get three. Then watch carefully for two to pair up(chances of getting three males or three females is pretty clim) then remove the odd man/woman out.

et voila une pair des Bangaai Cardinal. :D

Do make sure that they are eating prepared foods. Some may take a bit some never do if they are wild caught.

I took the advice that three's the number to get. It seems that I got two males and a female, and one of the males harrassed the other to the point that it couldn't take food and it died. The two that were left stay together and have been fine for just about a year now.
