I'm not just talking about a generic "sump", but an actual sump pump. I was at a local ACO today and saw 1/6 hp Flotec sump pumps, rated at 1200 gph, for $58. They have an off-switch built in if you run out of water to pump. This company also makes pumps for ponds and such... just wondering if anyone has used one of these for their sump return.

Just be careful, a lot of household sump pumps don't use a magnetic drive and use metal shafts to hold the impeller. I tried this once for a pump to just move water for water changes and noticed (luckilly in the water I was pumping out of the tank) the the water had a nice film of oil on it. I thought maybe it just needed to be run so I ran it for 2 hours just pumping clean fresh water. After 2 hours it was still kicking out oil. Don't use them in your system.

Yeah I wouldn't even attempt it unless done by someone else...the price isn't that much less than a pump specifically made for pond/marine systems. I was just curious.

Get an iwaki pump and do it right!
