What temp should my tank be at I have a heater I have it set at 80degrees should it be colder then that

80 is fine. In general most corals you will keep will be happy in 78-82. My tank is regularly at 83 without problem. But that is the upper limit. I would keep it between 78-82. Best to keep it closest to the temp. it would go to if your heater/chiller failed, so if this happened the temperature swing would be minimized.

Like College stated 78-82 is a good zone, but minimize your temperature swing as much as possible. It's okay to very slowly move it up or down with the seasons but the less it swings during the day the better. Generally, the goal is to vary 2 degrees or less. Corals like stability.
