I just installed an IWAKI MD70RLT for my new aquarium and found it horrendously noisy. It's louder than my dishwasher.

It's an external pump that sits next to my sump and pumps water back up through a manifold. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any chance I've got a defect?

I do not have that pump, but I do have a similar one. What I did was use a small sheet of heavy duty rubber from a weight lifting matt, drilled through it (damn it’s tough) and mounted the pump on it and onto the stand flooring and away went the noise. Now I have to open the doors on the stand to even hear it. I have hear of other people using a piece of carpet.

The piece of carpet definitely helped. So did the little box I just built for it out of soundboard. I think I'll look into a piece of rubber next time at Home Depot though...seemed to get more bang for the buck out of the carpet. Thanks for the tip!

I have a 40rlt and put an old mouse pad under it. That cut down the noise by 75%.
