I recently ordered 46" tank and would like to use t5's. Would a set of 8x39watt 36" t5s look ok on a 46 inch tank or would I need to find a little supplemental lighting for the ends..

Thanks
Paul

If you are using a canopy get retrofits and stagger the lamps a few inches from end to end. Would take care of everything.

Well I bought a retro set but it is built all into one unit. My canopy is 8" high. I am hoping that the lights will defuse to the left a right alittle as there will only be about 5" on either side of the fixture.

mecold,
I posted this info once before in another thread. Maybe this will help you.

39W T5

cap to cap: 33 3/8"
tip to tip : 34"
w/ non-waterproof endcaps : 34 1/4"
w/ waterproof endcaps: 34 3/4"

54W T5

cap to cap: 45 1/8"
tip to tip : 45 3/4"
w/ non-waterproof endcaps : 46"
w/ waterproof endcaps: 46 1/2"

If the 54W T5s still don't work for you, you can always stager the 39W T5s to cover your whole tank.
