I dont know whats going on, but now my harliquin's eye is all buldged out and hes acting like im going to loose another fish....

i need some advice, i was thinking i might see if hes still there in the morning and get my lion and leaflip out of the tank till i get it straightened back out, im redoing the plumbing and electrical. and mabey getting a new skimmer, also getting rid of this base rock and filling with all liverock.

I was thinking maybe someone could either babysit my fish or I could sell them(3 corals also), i really dont want to drop them off at the fish store.

after all this mess thats been happening I want to do a overhaul of the tank, and set it up right.

let me know your opinions. im lost lol

Another thing, what exaclty do calcium reactors do, is it just a fancy toy to have?

floridajhawk
04/03/2005, 10:04 PM
ok what about the other things u need them for a while ?

A calcium reactor maintains your calcium and alkalinty levels without dosing A/B stuff. With large tank volumes, dosing A/B just wont cut it. Reactors are especially useful if you have lotsa SPS, clams, and other calcium loving creatures...

Im trying to figure out if i should sell my livestock for now because i want to put a large amount of liverock in, and redo the plumbing etc.
basically cause i was a FO, and im converting to reef, which is when i encountered all these problems.

wasnt sure if i should sorta start over.

haha hmmm well if ur gonna do reef id sell the fish, that tusk will mess with smaller fish and ur crabs, snails, and shrimp will all get eatin, basically keep the fish you have or keep the corals you have :)

WAITE...STOP STOP STOP...that does not look like regular Popeye to me. If you look behind the eye it looks like there is white tissue starting to bulge out. Am I correct or just seeing things? if so thats not regular popeye its a side effect to a bacterial infection that is treated different than popeye.

all the lfs's in town carry mela , and certain petsmart i have seen melafix also .. its the most common cold and sinus medicine for fish.

Hes in a QT tank atm with mela in it, yes i think there is some cloudiness to his eye.

floridajhawk
04/04/2005, 02:52 PM
thats regular popeye seen it a lot at the store i worked at and with one of my own fish before no cause for alarm

Jovreefer

I'm not talking about the cloudiness. And I maintain a 17,000 gallon (poorly designed) system. I've seen LOTS of popeye on lots of large and small fish. It definatly looks like there is tissue bulging from around the eye. The bacterial infection that causes that is not hard to cure either and not major cause for alarm if treated quiclky. The medications for it are different than popeye. If its left untreated to long it will cause permanant damage & the eye will disapear. Just keep a close eye on it, look for the buldging around the eye, if it gets worse or no better I'll look up the medication we have for it.
