I have a 401k account that I forgot about. Well to make a long story short, the account was too small so the holding company mailed me a check that I never received. The IRS is now saying that I owe them money because of the early distribution. I called the holding company to tell them that I never received my check and I want a new check. It has been 5 months now and the company holding my 401k still has not given me my money yet but I owe taxes on it!!!
Are there any laws that entitle me to get my 401K money in a timely manner?
Can I get interest for the 1 1/2 that the 401k company had my money?
Should I still have to pay taxes and penalties for the money that I haven't received yet?
