brown stuff on the LS and LR

now i have some brown stuff covering the sand bed and live rock ... what should i do to clean it ?

Is you tank in it's initial cycle? If so just leave it...

If your tank has just finished cycling, just leave it. It should go away by itself or turn green. Then add the cleanup crew.

Then it's normal. You have a ways to go. PS--The brown stuff is algae.

I'm getting this in my tank as well, and its been up about 4 weeks. Don't worry, it will go away. Just wipe off glass and when you do your next waterchange try to suck as much of it up as possibly.

Have yet to do a water change . I understood to leave the water alone until the cycle is done ...... Also does the skimmate count as if water is evaporating or is it saltwater and saltwater has to be added back ...?

The skunk from the skimmer ,... is it saltwater and therefore would have to add saltwater to keep the water level steady ?

Yes it is saltwater and eventually your salinity will come down if you just add fresh. In my experience, my little skimmer doesn't cause a salinity issue.

It depends how you skim. If your skimmate is thick and dark brown like coffee than you are not pulling out much saltwater. If you have a real watery, green skimmate you might want to check your salinity every few weeks and add salt accordingly
