overflow drain and sump water level

I have durso stand pipe and still it make lot of noise. How did you setup your overflow drain in your sump? Is it higher then sump water level or lower? Does it T off with anything or goes directly to sump?

I don't have a durso, but mine drains straight down and rests over the intake of the sedra for my skimmer, about 3" below the surface.
