Any one know. If i get a drilled RR tank from LFS, would AGA drill CL holes or drain holes.

Or would it be better to do after i bought it.

aga will drill prior to tempering the glass. If you want to drill after, you will have to drill sides.

I dont think AGA will do custom drilled holes. I know oceanic does, but the price is outrageous.

I believe the LFS can get them ordered. It's like 25-50 bucks a hole.

Will AA drill holes at their store?

If they did get a hole drilled for you. I am sure it would cost more than the tank itself. :D

I dont think AA gets into stuff like that. Plus they are pricks.

I know.. the guy at the store told me some pretty wrong info. Glad i have RC and ohio reefers

Question. The AGA 75 gallon. I know for sure has a tempered bottom pane. From the little sticker on it. But what about the other sides? Drillable?

The sides are not tempered on the tanks , just the bottom. I just put a closed loop on my 72 Bowfront.

If you do buy it , dont let them sell you the standpipe kit. They charge like 50$, and you can make it for < 10$

AA does, but it is $50 per hole.

Ok if i was to drill myself. Would a hole saw be better or the dremel diamond tip work better? Ok ya the tank has water in it.

I have done a hole in a 75 gallon with a dremel and let me tell you, You dont want to do it like that. It will take an hour compared to 2 minutes with a hole saw.

A friend drilled my 75 with a diamond hole saw and it took about 7 minutes to do 2, 3inch holes. Smooth as butter.
AA in Columbus drills tanks.

What is the best method to drill with a hole saw?

wet the area with a little standing water. Start slow to allow for a groove to form, then increase speed. Allow for just the weight of your hand on the drill butt, and the bit will guide itself through.
Make sure to add a little fresh water every 30-45 seconds. Occasssionally stop the drill and lift it to add water to the trench.

I guide out of wood and start the circular impression dry so you dont need the guide when you start drilling. I tilt the tank to a slight angle , make a damn with plumbers putty so half of the circle is covered in the water and drill away.
