I am in the middle of deciding wether to get dual 250w or dual 400w MH's and have been told its worth the little extra $$$ to go with the 400's. And as I was just about to do that, I got to thinking about the temperature.

Will dual 400's cause a problem? Ive got a 100g thats 48" long by 18"wide. Theres a fair amout of circulation and I have a 20g sump.

hmm depends tank glass or acylic?? My 120g 49g sump both acylic 10+20g refugium in the garage. I use 2 1200gph pumps 1 Iwaki40 1 mak4. 2_250w halides 4 vho 2 6"fans in the canopy. my tank runs 78without a heater all day. I keep my heater at 80 summer it gets hot and I add another 6" fan to the sump. 400w if I had the $$ a chiller and the electric bill i would have got 400w.

IMO and IME I have had both on my 180. If you have a chiller then go with the 400s if not I would go with the 250s.

I was running 3 x 400ers and I couldn't get by tank below 82-84 and that was w/ 4 x 4" fans in the hood and a fan over the sump. Now I am running 3 x 250s w/ 2 x 60" 140watt actinic VHOs and my temp ranges from 78-82.

Question?

How many degrees above ambient temperature do you think the 400w adds?

ambient temp = 70-75
