I think it's real. The guy is a RC member. I saw a thread where he tried to sell first to his local reef club for like $300. They were not impressed.

Remember someone sold BUBBLE ALGAE on ebay and someone bought it? LOL!

$600+ is insane. I guess some people don't research before buying and aren't very wise with their money

I have to be cool and keep up with what's expensive...Will you take 550 for yours?

Sooo, Yumas have exceeded certain acan.lords as the most expensive coral per polyp? Thinking again, if you count the polyps on an oregon tort maybe that is still the most expensive?!?!?

Impressive thread Michael!!

Anyone want to trade stuff for some yumas? I have a rare white RBTA that lives in complete darkness. Worth at least $750 +. j/k I am looking for some yumas.

Wow, thats completely amazing. I have what looks like the same exact coral bought at altantis for less than 10% of that price. Guess I got a deal. lol

I think that ebay gives exposure to different people that dont nessecarily have the resources that we do through good LFS, clubs, and forums. So when they see something "rare" on there, its a must have. And then you factor in the fact that too many people treat ebay like a competition instead of a purchase. So they end up paying a lot more than what they would've been wiling to in the LFS.

Joe,

I was at GreaterBay Aquarium the other day and he had a bunch. The colors were not all that great but the prices were not either. James(Aquascene) had some pink yumas, yes like the one that was sold on eaby for 600+ dollars. LOL

Funny, since it sold for more than $600, I guess him offering them to the club for $325 a piece was a good deal!

But hey, whatever the market will bear, right? For my money, I'd rather have 6 $100 corals, or 60 $10 corals!

Heh... not difficult to find the auction anyway ;) . I'll definitely be watching.

Well there are 20 people on my watch list lol. I dont think the bidding will start until the last hr.

What's your minimum bid?

hammerhead
03/29/2005, 10:06 AM
The bidding started at 100$ it's at 104.50 right now. These are more expensive then Acans. 1 polyp of Acan is 50.

hammerhead
03/30/2005, 09:35 PM
Well I got 127.50 not the 600 That the other one went for. I cant figure out what make one worth 600 and the next one 100.

eBay has a weird dynamic. If you start the bidding low (say one dollar) then ofthen the price will go up to beyond what it would if you set it to $100. I think you get more interest and people actually bid themselves up, partly the competition to WIN it. If it's at $100, some people may just filter it out, even though they MIGHt have paid more for it. And interest from some people may generate interest in others.

And if you start at a buck and get 5 bidders shoving it to $100, then other people will think it's worth that much (since so many people are bidding for it) . If you start it at $100, then people might notice that there is no interest in it, and therefore it's not worth bidding $100 for it.

I dunno, again, eBay has it's on psychology. It would make for a good psych thesis! If you have more frags (and if you yourself didn't pay $100 for it). It would be interesting to see another auction, if you set the price low. (You can set a reserve, or be unethical and buy it back yourself if the price is too low, under a different name, or get a friend to buy it back if you think you are losing money...but that's a rotten thing to do).

(I'm just trying to trick you into auctioning it for $1 so I can buy it for $2 !)

No, the problem was hammerhead said "rare" but he didn't say SUPER DOOOOOPER RARE!!! LOL

$127/polyp is probably much more than you paid for it right?

hammerhead
03/31/2005, 03:34 PM
Ya I can get them for 75$. I don't know why others can't do the same. It's pretty much a no brainier. These folks must be out in the stix and don't have access to them

lukasnca

Or don't know any better ... if you don't do a lot of research ebay sometimes looks like a good deal.
