Dr. Ron
Sometime in the night last night, something gnawed my candleabrum gorgonian coral in half, drug it under some LR, and spun a "web" around one end of it. This coral had been in my tank for at least a year and a half and had grown from an inch long frag to 6 inches or so.
Any idea what could do this and how I could remove it? I have caught a glimpse of a fairly impressive Eunicid worm in my tank a time or or two. Do any of them have a taste for gorgonians? I lost another (different species) of gorgonian type coral a few months ago in a similar incident.
Here are some pics.

Hi,

I can't really see anything in the second image that helps, unfortunatel. The first one is interesting. I don't think a Eunicid could do that. The predatory ones eat mobile prey which they catch with grasping jaws. These jaws can't really be used to "gnaw" or chew. They simply haven't got the articulation that allows that.

However, some other worm may have done this. Other potential cluprits might include some crabs. Without seeing the attack in action it would be really hard to say.
