Mixing Salt

I have placed about 100 lbs of live rock in my new aquarium and am now wondering if it is OK to put my fresh water in the aquarium and mix the salt in there like that or do it in a seperate container and then pump it into the aquarium that way. Does it matter.

seperate container....the mixing process will kill anything on the rock and make it dead rock
