A few local reefers are interested in this "Kold Ster-il" device to filter our tap water to use in our fish tanks.

How do you like it?
How do you think it compares to an RO filter?
Do you run cold, hot, or warm water into it?
How long do the cartridges last?
Got any pics of it?

Looks like you caould almost DIY the one.

Thanks!!!!

Yes I read that, but what I was meaning was using sediments, carrbon, and DI filters to do the same thing. You can buy the actual filter components from lowes or HD and then buy the other filters from someone else that are the same size as the canisters.

I've had one about two years. Answering your questions in order:

Like it; very clean water at a high flow rate compared to RO. No wastewater either.

Water not quite as pure as RO, but still very good.

Cold water only.

Depends on the source water. I got a little more than a year out of my first set. Replacements are cheap, btw ($25).

No pics -- sorry.

There were several discussions about these about a year and a half ago on reefcentral, you might do a search. As I recall the only people who were somewhat dissatisfied with Kold-Sterils were people who had high phosphate levels in their source water. Apparently the phosphate remover in Kold Sterils isn't as good as a DI cartridge.
