View Full Version : Anemone Remover
I have a couple of unwanted anemones that I would like to kill. I have tried boiling water, with no luck. I have heard using a syringe with boiling water will work. Problem being that I can't find a syringe to buy. What are your suggestions?

You could try Joe's Juice; you only have to squirt/dab a little outside with anemone's mouth. Better yet, you can get a syringe at a pharmacy or a vet's office. Be sure to explain what you want to do with it--for some reason they didn't think it was funny when I said, "...because I don't want to share a needle with all of the other people I do drugs with."
FWIW, I have heard that injecting lemon juice into aipstasia is effective as well.

I've used lemon juice and it worked great. The little lemon container it comes in makes it great for drawing up plenty of juice. Just make sure you inject it into the body of the anemone itself. I missed a couple of times.
A lot of pharmacies around here won't sell you syringes without a script or a diabetic ID card. And most want ot sell you like 500 at a time. I've had luck with Publix pharmacies around here.

Joe's juice and speakers magic pickling lime solution both work equally well imo. The joes juice is just already mixed and ready and i really think it is either pickling or lemon juice. As far as syringes go I can get a variety of different sizes. I would however recommend that if you need a large box cheap getting the large box of the wal-mart brand generic insulin syringes get the 1 cc size with the regular needle. Tell thePharmacist what you are using them for and shouldn't have any problem getting them or come by and see me at the Hartselle store. Bigger sizes can be harder to get but try and independent specialty Pharmacy. I really think the 3 cc with the 18 gauge needle work well since you are only using a very small amount of solution. Also with the joes juice or pickling lime you just get it close to the mouth do not try to inject it.. and then theres always a Peppermint shrimp

An alternative I've read about is stinging the problem anemones with a small specimen of Catalaphyllia jardinei (elegance coral). Has anyone used this method?
