So many fish-stores for sale

I have seen at least 3 fish stores for sale on Graig-list in the last few months. Are all the smaller LFS have troubles making ends meet??

I haven't seen any fish stores for sale on CL ... mostly fish stores with sales trying to get more customers. There seem to be new fish stores popping up every once in a while in the bay area. Its hard to believe that there is enough business in this area to keep all of these fish stores going.

Nice prices, just 50% over most costs.

I like paying more if the LFS knows the wholesaler and knows a lot about their techniques etc. Worth the extra money when you know that the fish are going to be in your tank in the long run. Not a dis, but more of a lets see. Let say I know sores with prices like them. grrrrrrrrrrrr

I jsut saw one the other dayon Craigslist selling for $10000 in Sunnyvale. The guy said he was pulling between $200,000-$300,000 a year. He makes a quarter million ayear and is selling for only $10,000? Sounds fishy to me.

It was probably a typo and he meant $100,000 but IIRC Cortez Marine was for sale for only like $30 or $40k I think?

Hmmm...I wonder if we aren't spending enough money in their stores. Maybe instead of buying a Maxijet 400 at MarineDepot for $14, I should have bought the one at the LFS that they wanted $40 for...(said Vince sarcastically).

I buy hardware at Lucky Ocean, but mostly because steve lowers his prices to the point of being competitive with mailorder. Got my Seio1100 for $60 there, compared to $62+shipping from marine depot?

you can get a seio1500 for $62,95+shipping from www.fishsupply.com with no taxes either=) or wait maybe there is taxes I can't remember where there from

1500 would be too much for my tank, the 1100 was a huge boost since I swapped out a 620 where it went.

I think the problem would be that the biggest customer base would be the owners... hard to make money that way.

Yeah, unfortunately the profit margin (if any) would be extremely low due to all the owners taking the goods for their own tanks ;)
