my dad went abalone fishing a yr ago and had these shells in his backyard. i cleaned em w/ real good and put some of them in my tank to cycle. if anybody wants a weird piece to add to their tank pm me. i have 4 i can give away. some of the images below are from my tank. one of the shells i'm going to use as a cave type thing -- where its propped onto 2 smaller rocks so my critters can hide -- the shells are pourous like live rock and some of em even had barnacles, spongy type material, a couple looked like they had some type of coraline algae on it. pretty cool stuff! if you want one and wanna donate something back like a frag! your more than welcome to but not necessary :)

If you werent in sac I'd take em, are you coming to the south bay anytime or a BAR meeting?

Hows the algae and frags I gave you?

The redbubble algae started to get bleached, so I shoved it back in the shade, its coming back now.

wyatt, i might go down to san jo again sometime. these pieces are real nice. porous on the top of the shell like fiji live rock. some of the colors of the shells are amazing. i have a bright orange shell but when i was scrubbing it w/ a toothbrush most of the color came off. the shells are pink/red when most of the scrubbed stuff is gone. i'm gonna put zoo frags on my shells. it's gonna look so sick! :) cuz the shell is kinda curved. oh btw the shells are 4-8 inches in length and about 3-6 in width. they're pretty big. i'm planning on using one or two of em as base rock and maybe one or two as a hangar for my critters to hide.
the algae is doing good. i don't see alot of growth but it hasn't died so thats a plus. i tried glueing the brown algae to the rock but it wouldn't stick. when my new macro grows out, i'll frag you a piece of this red sea fern that i recently acquired. it's really pretty.

Nice are you gonna go to a BAR meeting? I could possibly meet then. I was thinking of putting them in my 20long so my clown fish arent in a empty tank and so the urchins can eat something other than nori again. My clowns seem like they have moved from hosting the heater to hosting the pincushion urchin!
