They can be a pain as far as knocking over corals and causing rockslides. But the benefits of the clean live rock and substrate are worth the annoyances. Some are very active and fun to watch.

The clean up crew will even clean the puffer too.

Well SOME of the cleanup crew will clean the puffer. A cleaner shrimp will clean it off, but I don't know about hermits and snails.

Animals that I consider as a clean-up crew:
Some snails for diatomes
Polychaete worms for detritus
If you have a large tank, a fighting conch (Strombus alatus) will eat diatomes from the sand
Small crustaceans do a great job at eating practically everything
I think hermit crabs are too destructive, because they eat things I like
If you have a large tank, some sort of cucumber might do well, but must not be a filter feeder

Really the main thing you need is sand sifting inverts to keep the sand bed clean and constantly stirred. Maybe the best invert I ever added to my tank was the horseshoe crab. He is 3 1/2" long and is usually scurrying around the tank under the sand. He comes out every now and then but mostly I have to look for the sand moving to find him.

I agree with romunov. I would add some nassarius vibex or obsoleta snails to that list-

Spotted eagle-ray, a great sand sifter. Maybe that & a green sea turtle.......

No those new snails were hiding in the shell of the one snail.
They are hitch hikers.
You will still need a puffer and an angler in this tank.

Polychaete worms, Christmas tree rock, small feather dusters - my valentini puffer eats them as candies. No problem with: turbo- and astrea snails, banded serpent star, larger hermits and the blood shimp. This particular puffer is not fin nipper too, though.
