I cant seem to find a chart or formula on how much salt to add per gallon of water to get the right gravity. I just keep adding salt till I reach the right gravity, thats fine when I'm only working with one tank. Would be great to have a starting point when your dealing with 20 tanks at a local store.

It seems to be 1/2 cup of salt for 1 gallon of water for most salt mixes...

I use IO and they recomend just that, 1/2 cup per gallon.

yes but what SG does 1/2 cup per gallon yield?

I've never used EXACTLY that but it's a good starting point. I THINK they say that it will yield a SG of 1.023, a little on the low side for a reef tank so I just use that as a guide, and add more to get to 1.025 or so.

So I should put about 2.75 cups of salt per 5 gallons?

I would go with 2.5 and then see where you're at with a refractometer and adjust as necessary.
