legs for orbit fixture

I received my fixture today-it came with legs and also some little rubber stick on circles that say they raise it 1/4 in off the cover

I have a versa top

Why do people use the legs? Will it heat my aquarium too much without legs?

They are currently on a 20 low but will eventually go on a 29(when I find a home for the cichlids)

I had some heat issues when I put my lamp directly on the glass tank cover, so the legs should help you if you have similar issues.

A lot of people dont use covers. The legs keep the fixture at a safe distance from the water. As Jonathon said heat is another issue. With a cover and more intense light you may need to remove the cover and raise them to help with the temp. So don't toss the legs.
