Just wondering what everyone uses... (I use oolitic in my display tank,, and a combination of oolitic and reef sand in my refugium.)

I used this. Indo-Pacific I liked the white and black look it gave my tank (salt and pepper look) Its a finer grade sand sold in most LFS and online, its not powder and far from cruched coral. I like it and it dont blow around with 3 power heads in a 37g

here is a better pic sorry

I use some oolitic livesand and have some seafloor mixed in with it. The lifesand still blows around, but the seafloor seems to keep the bottom from becoming bald in spots. My SPS need hard current more than the sand needs to stay put. ;)

My LFS has sand that comes from the Atlantic side of Fla.. It's fine, very white and full of critters.

I use regular silica based playsand from HD in my tanks and other than the standard diatom blooms that every tank has in the beginning, I've never had any problems.

Afterall, since roughly 95% (give or take a couple of percent) of the ocean floor is silica sand, I figure Mother Nature knows what she is doing. :D

I completly agree, i use Home Depot play sand, sillica quarts sand, and never had a problem. After my tank cycled, diatom went away, and not a single problem since!

Arag-Alive in one tank and sand straight from the ocean floor in another.

My LFS has sand that comes from the Atlantic side of Fla.. It's fine, very white and full of critters.

What part of FL is that from, my natural sand is full of life but more of a light brown color? Just curious.
