refugium substrate?

Is it ok to use the sand from my main tank in my hang-on refugium? I just ordered some Refugium mud that I was also going to mix in. Problem is-my fuge has been running for several months and seems established. Is it ok to move the plants a bit and mix the mud with the sand? I don't want to ruin anything but I've heard the mud is supposed to be great stuff.

I did this with no problem. I ordered my mud from Garf.org and just added it to the sump and it worked fine. I would however have some carbon around if there is a min cycle.
