I have these 2 patches growing in my tank & was wondering what it is (some plant or algae), & how to get rid of it.

Tagging along, I have the same thing in my tank but it is dark brown

I have some of the darker stuff, too. I believe I've seen it called disk-algae. It will grow over most anything apparently. Removing it by hand works pretty well until you get to the 'base,' then it's harder, but you should be able to pry it off of the rock.

Is it hard? It almost looks vascular in that second pic. How fast does it grow?

Looks similar.

Hartdude, its not hard & that 2nd pic is about the size of my fist. My tank has been setup 1 year now so I,m guessing its grown that big in 8-10 months.

Blindmelonbob, thanks. I may try that soon.

Mine covered an area of about 25 sq. inches in about 2 months.

Looks really cool to me. Sell it to a LFS and just buy a replacement piece of live rock.

selgado, I'm hoping I dont have to go that route. One piece is on the bottom & would be a pain to remove.

But thanks,

There is an encrusting coralline that look like that but is purple.

It is kind of pretty, but it encroaches fairly rapidly. It's a tough little booger, too.
