Cleaning Halide Bulbs

Yesterday I noticed some smudges and splatters on the bulbs of my metal halides, and I'm wondering if I should wipe them every once in a while (they've only been setup for a week or two) and how to go about doing it. Paper towel? Washcloth? Dry? Water? Windex?

I clean mine before they come on in the morning about once or twice a month with viniger

I would just wipe with a damp paper towel (thought the vinegar idea is great too) when they are cold...

Mine sit about 12 inches above the water...so they don't get a lot of spray on them. I clean them once every few months.
