Hey Guys, here is the scoop on permits.

A. Permit not required, but nice in case you get an unruly marine officer.

B. Here is the #2 Guy
Contact / Issued By / Request For Permit Send to:
Brian Luckhurst
Sr. Marine Officer
293-5600 x2222
Marine Resources Dept
PO Box CR52
Crawl, CRBX Bermuda

C. Wording: It says-
"Special Permit to: Collect specimens of various reef fish species using hand nets for display purposes only in home aquarium."
Conditions: Specimens for Display purposes only. No Commercial Value.
It has no expiration.

D. What can you catch?
This year, recently, he said, any fish except some special and large grouper.
Two years ago, he said, any fish except parrot fish.
He said they will have their complete rules booklet back from printer soon, after a 3 year process.
Obviously, nor coral, hard or soft. Also, no bi-valves, except for the Bermuda Mussels. No Conch.

E. Scuba Equipment-
He said that it is a grey area, not specifically prohibited, and not specifically allowed.
I told him that after 2 years it appears that only 40% of the species are accessable with snorkel only, and that I wish to use scuba to try to catch the other 60% (high hat, frog fish, spanish hogfish, blue chromis,...). He said, fine, very understandable, write him a letter and he will at least have it covered in then next meeting, then you are covered. Good news. I have done so.
