I am going to build a DIY Downdraft skimmer and have seen many plans on the web. Look simple and am just wondering if any of you have built from any of these plans and if so what ones. Is there anything reef devil, etc. can do that I can't? And, how did you go about cutting the acrylic disks that go between sections.

There is a guy kicking around these boards... 'markrb'.

He built a pretty nice replica of a ReefDevil. Looks just the same, except its clear. :) I've seen it in operation, and it appears to work fine. He may be able to give you some tips.

Go get yourself some 'Weld-On'... your going to need it. ;)

One thing I forgot to metion in the email is that my DIY skimmer is louder then the RD2 I used as a reference. I believe it comes from the fact that the air intake is louder. It is really simple to build. The toughest part is finding the acrylic tubing. I found it in the phone book under plastic. Here is a really awful drawing I made. I will try and follow it up with pictures.
