I keep reading about these amino acids that corals feed upon, but what food would be the highest concentration of a amino acid? Is it a vitamin?

Proteins are composed of amino acids.

Protien. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins.

I am wondering, if I make my own food with various sea fish and mollusks, I assume it will contain amino acids that my coral can feed on? I thought about purchasing some Korallin amino acids but then thought perhaps my corals are already getting some thru my food...??? Any thoughts?

Add some "Salco"

Do you mean Selcon? I add Seldon, what I believe is a vitamin, to my feed.... If not what is Salco??

BTW my son in law is a tattoo artist in central Maine.... I have almost convinced myself to get one!

Seafood is very high in proteins, thus containing many amino acids. It is one the best foods we can consume as humans, for proteins(vs. sat. fat etc.)......Since it comes from the ocean where these corals live and feed, I would say they recieve plenty of nutrition from these feedings......Of course saying seafoods is very broad, best best are to look for extra lean or lean fish if given a choice.....Also some of the oily fishes contain Omega-3 fatty acids, which I have heard benefit your reef....I have no basis to back this up as feed mostly prepared foods, with the exception of feeding my rbtas fresh fish, after a fishing trip.....HTH

I don't do it but lots of folks make their own food. Do a search here you'll find all sorts of recipes. Melev has a great guide on his site at Melev's Reef (http://www.melevsreef.com/food.html)

You can check the nutritional content of almost all processed and raw foods at the USDA Food Nutritional Database (http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/). It's a fun toy.
