Tropic Marine Pro salt

Where in the chicago area can I pick up a bucket. all i have found is regular tropic marine salt.

Might be cheaper just to order online from a sponsor, if you don't need it right a way. Have you read any feedback on this salt? I am considering using it in the future. Thanks

1 Tropic Marine

2 Marinemix Plus BioElements

3 Oceanic (it's a good salt for fish) comparing to above two.

4 Everything eles what ever.

I know someone who can get Tropic Marine chaper then stores.
I will find out if you are interested.

How much was the Regular Tropic Marine with tax?

The above info is form the guy in Virgina, he has his own store, he is in the salt water hobby for 30 years and he builds 1000G and up tanks. The last one he build just the tank cost $250,000.00 I don't remember how big, they had to built the house around it. If you want to make changes you need to dive in. :cool:

Ok, I talked to the guy on the phone right now about the pro and regular Tropic Marine Salt.

He said that the tropic pro is not worth to buy, all it has is just more calcium. He said tropic salt is the best salt in the world and all the professional aquarist use it. He said that the price for extra calcium in totally not worth it. He also talked to other aquarists they all agree to stay with regular salt, because the pro salt is like reinventing the wheel.
Later on today I will know the prices, I am going to buy me few buckets also.

i used the tropic marin, to be honest i didnt really see much of a difference from IO? the tropic marin was like 75.00 for the 200 gal mix, IO is like 45-50.do you think the tropic marin is worth the extra cash?

If you have just a salt water fish there is no difference but if you have reef yes.

I would be curious how this mix tests out when freshly mixed, as far as Alk,Ca,Str,Mg, and Iodine. Does ne1 know?

I don't know how it tests, I am going to use this salt first myself.
I know a guy who use it, and he would not use any other, he has 210G tank only uses 3 175W MH and two VHO, I was like what the hell how is this stuff growing under these lights, he said I make sure that the water chemistry is right, corals don't just feed on calcium. From A to Z. His clam is like 30 something inches form the lights.

There was a thread last fall about buying Tropic Marin, probably in November. IIRC someone (fishnut?) tested freshly made TM. I don't remember the results.

The Marineland newsletter SeaScope also had a comparison of salt contents in the 3rd or 4th issue of 2004. PDFs are at http://www.marineland.com/news_seascope.asp but I didn't look to see which issue.

I've had very good luck with TM and it is my salt of choice. As others have noted though, it does tend to be expensive. So I';ve bought it on sale here (pretty much a thing of the past from my LFS) or when traveling through Pennsylvania from That Fish Place for about $40 a bucket.

Do you use Tropic Marin, or TM Pro? TM is not that much more $, it's the pro that is abt 150% the price of IO,RC,O. Whether it's worth the extra$.. who knows.

I bought Tropic Marin at www.bigalsonline.com for 53.00 DELIVERED! I love not having to schlep the 200 gal bucket from the store!

Oh yes...The salt is great. Disolves quickly w/no residue and the ALK-CA-Ph are fine for me...I still use Kalk for all my top-off water and everythings fine by me.:D

Oh, wow looks like Tropic Marine is the best salt. Least amonuts of toxic metals.

One guy offered TM for $65 I will say thank you to him, but I have one more person that will call me with price.

So far Stevan this is the best price, I will see what the second guy will tell me, and if the price will be higher then 53, I will be ordering from bigalsoline.com

I'm thinking of switching from Oceanic to Tropic Marin. I -- along with others -- have suffered a cyano bloom after using Oceanic (coincidence or correlation?). If there's a discount to be had in a group order, I'm in for 5 200 gallon buckets.

There's a Reef Central sponser who, I believe will price match any online price. I might call them , make sure they can match the deal and order from them. They are closer than Big Al's, so I would think shipping would be cheaper, unless it's a a flat fee.

For what a bucket of salt weighs, $16 to ship it is a bargain. I would be willing to bet it would cost you more than that to ship it UPS ground from one side of Chicago to the other.

Big Als gets it directly from the manufacturer. Premium Aquatics has to go through a distributor, and it costs more, though UPS ground from there is next day and the cost to ship is about the same. But they can't match that price.

This is all IIRC.

See other threads for how to get IO for under $40. Too many of these threads are starting to look alike...

I've been using TM for over a year and I love it. It mixes fast and gives me perfect results time and time again.
I have a 300 gallon bag I think cost me around $80-$90 I bought it from my lfs.

i just got my 2 buckets from big al's (@$52ea or so) . ups destroyed the buckets like you wouldn't believe. thankfully the salt is in a bag inside the bucket. delivery took less than a week of business days.
