Sounds like Rob cannot make the meet to continue on the Ca/Alk additives..... we will probalby have a round table and talk about club membership
Is anyone interested in making a batch of food? I have some clam and a few scallops, algae flakes, freeze dried cyclopeeze and some silversides... If Jason brings some shrimp eggs and some one brings Selcon and maybe some other ocean white fish, shrimp etc... we could make quite the batch of food for peolpe to take home...?
Let me know so I will know to bring the blender and clingwrap....and apron :D

Just a note.. I noticed when I got into the food we made Sat that the plastic wrap was rather wrinkled and sometimes caught into the food... When I make it at home I usually place the stuff on a plate and place it in the freezer... it keeps the stuff flat and smooth while freezing......Anyway fish sure love the stuff.....!
hope to se ya next meet

They sure do love it ! I made sure mine was flat when I got home froze it and all is good.
Jason had a great idea in re-useing the plastic trays from store bought frozen food. Someone also mentioned getting the small icecube trays to use. Another great idea.

My fish LOVE the food Denise and Jason made at the meeting! They go into a 'feeding frenzy' hubby John looked into the tank and wondered what was wrong, everyone was in the same area at one time. The wrap had a few wrinkles but nothing unmanageable, I just use a potato peeler to shave it off. My open brains LOVE the shrimp eggs also, thanks Jason. Hope to see you all at the March meeting. Sue

How did you get the shrimp eggs? BRS is making fish food at
this months meeting.

It sounds like a excellent addition to the food, if someone wants to mention it to BRS

I buy whole Maine shrimp from either a road side vendor or a seafood market that sells it. Just scrape the eggs off, rinse, and freeze. We made some fish food at the last SWAM meeting.

Jason, I noticed the last batch of shrimp eggs that I harvested came in several different colors... some were somewhat clear with black specs, some were kinda blackish over all, others were varying colors of a real pretty aquaish color ... I am assuming the aqua colored ones were fertilized? Is it okay to use the others as well? Soemtimes the darker colored ones had an odor, not sure if it was that shrimp was a littler older or what... anyway... way is the difference and can we use them all?
I will send Moe an email when I get home about this ...
Thanks!

I transferred the mix into zip-loc baggies and flattened them out into 1/8" sheets. It was definately a big hit in my tank as well. This would be a great addition to future reef meets. Every 4mon or so. Thanks for everyones efforts.

Hi Denise,
I have noticed a difference in the color as well. Most are aqua colored. As they get closer to hatching, they will start to change color and shape. The black specs are actually the eyes, and the eggs tend to get clearer. They also get more elongated in shape and are larger. The dark ones may have been dead longer and may have started to break down as they have been out of the water longer. I think they will still be ok to use. The shrimp juice (body fluid, like blood) is dark anyway and some of the dark color goes away after washing the eggs well. If they really stink, maybe not use them. Any unfertilized eggs will be white. I don't seem them very often so just through them in the mix. I am going to buy some tonite on my way home from work.
