Bare bottom to DSB??

Hi all,
I'm planning to convert my bare-bottom tank and put about an 1" DSB in it. Can someone give any advise on what's the easiest way to accomplish this without clouding the water?? Do I have to remove all my fish while doing this? Thanks for the help!

Clean it very very very very very good!!! Then just put in one cup full at a time. Put the cup all way to the bottom of the tank and pour it out. This will minimize the cloudiness. You can keep the fish in, they should be fine. When you get done, test your salt levels though. It may drop a little, but nothing major.

If you have a hang on filter, that will also help clean up the cloudy water faster than just waiting for it to settle. But like HouseDJSTL said, Clean you sand very well.

1" isn't a DSB. Just to get the terminology straight. :)

yeah i though deep was minimum 10cm which is about 4"

That's just sand for aesthetics and some fauna. I have an inch or two also and personally wouldn't go deeper, but a dsb is real deep like 4-6" for the minimum depth.

A DSB is 10cm of sand, right grain size and lots and lots of worms and other animals living in it. Anything else is just a bunch of sediment waiting to harden. :D
